Bangalore, July 24, 2014: “Most of the roads in Bangalore are choking with traffic and it is difficult for pedestrians to cross roads, more so during peak office hours. Dr Rajkumar Road also was no exception. With the Metro work, expansion of the road and huge fast moving traffic, pedestrians had to wait long before they could find space to walk across. It was for this reason that Brigade Group, with the support of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) constructed this skywalk,” apprised Mr M R Jaishankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Brigade Group at the inauguration of the first-of-its-kind skywalk at Dr Rajkumar Road here today.
The Skywalk was inaugurated today by Dr. Ashwath Narayan, MLA, Malleswaram and Mrs. Sashikala Krishna Gowda, Corporator, Subramanya ward no.66.
Speaking after the inauguration Dr.Ashwath Narayan, MLA, Malleswaram said “In Bangalore it is quite difficult to cross the road during peak hours because of the heavy traffic. So it is important to look into the safety of pedestrians who cross these roads everyday. Brigade Group has taken initiative to solve this problem. They have constructed a skywalk with escalator on Dr.Rajkumar Road Malleshwaram. This is the first of its kind skywalk in Bangalore”.
A Brigade development initiative, the Skywalk is constructed across Dr. Rajkumar road, in front of the Orion Mall to help commuters cross the busy two-way easily.
“This is the first skywalk with an escalator in Bangalore. The escalator has a stylish over roof. We decided to make an escalator so that people of all age groups can ascend the skywalk with ease. We dedicate the skywalk to the citizens of Bangalore today,” added Mr. Jaishankar.
The project was completed by Brigade group at a cost of Rs.2.5 crores.
