The coming Friday will see an interesting clash between Dharma Productions’ Imran-Kareena starrer GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN! and macho man Sunny Deol and Anil ‘Gadar’ Sharma project, SINGH SAAB THE GREAT. Though there are contradictory predictions about the outcome (based on camps) but one feels that barring metro multiplexes, the topical SINGH SAAB THE GREAT will fare better. However, both GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN! and SINGH SAAB THE GREAT will face a stiff opposition from GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA in Gujarat and Mumbai.
The Friday gone by, saw the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer, GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA , and as expected and predicted, after a good opening day (excellent in Gujarat and Mumbai), the film went from strength-to-strength, ending the first weekend netting nearly 50 crore. GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA has done wonderfully in the overseas, especially in the US (the Gujarati diaspora helping it’s cause further) grossing $4m with and#163;350,000 from UK and $1,450,000 from the US during the opening weekend (15-17 November).
The other release of the week, Vishwas Patil’s Kangana Ranaut starrer, RAJJO, failed to excite the audience with a rock bottom start and has failed.
Meanwhile Ram Gopa l Varma’s SATYA 2, fared very much like most of his recent releases, poorly! During the week the film collected 50 lakhs from Bombay, 10.55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.50 lakhs from Surat, 2.25 lakhs from Baroda, 2.55 lakhs from Rajkot, 15 lakhs from Pune, 4 lakhs from Nasik, 2.15 lakhs from Goa, 1 lakh from Belgaum, 13.15 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 3 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 1.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.15 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Jabalpur, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Udaipur, 1.50 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting 2 crore during the opening week, SATYA 2 is a trade disaster.
The other release of the week HUFF! IT’S TOO MUCH is a washout.
The collections of Rakesh Roshan’s Hrithik, Priyanka, Kangana and Vivek starrer, KRRISH 3, fell heavily in the second week (as compared to the huge first week), but that is how grossers with big opening week fare. Adding 50 crore, KRRISH 3 has netted 177 crore in two weeks from India and is a blockbuster. The dubbed version(s) have added another 9 crore (approx.). KRRISH 3 is also a good hit in the overseas grossing $7m with and#163;810,000 from UK and $2,125,000 from the US, till the third weekend (14-17 November).
