Hyderabad:Â The much-talked TDP-BJP alliance is to be formalised on Thursday. According to sources, Telugu Desam leaders on Wednesday faxed their revised offer of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats to the BJP Central office.
“We are expecting Arun Jaitley and Prakash Javadekar to come here on Thursday to announce the alliance along with Mr Chandrababu Naidu,†said a source in the Telugu Desam.
Acknowledging that there were hiccups in finalising the list, TDP sources said, “Since both parties realise the need to defeat the forces working against the BJP and the TDP, the alliance has become absolute necessary for both of us.â€
“We agree that there is a pro-Modi wave across the nation, but the BJP has also realised that it is not strong in the Assembly segments, especially in Seemandhra. So we have taken a lot of care in minimising the Assembly seats for the BJP and offered them Lok Sabha seats, keeping in mind that the vote transfer is possible only in the Lok Sabha elections,†a TDP source explained.
“The TDP wants BJP support in Telangana due to special reasons. We are being targetted as anti-Telangana though we have sufficient cadre strength. If the BJP, which is a staunch Telangana supporter, backs us in Telangana, it would be beneficial for both,†the source said.
Earlier, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar, who is overseeing the talks with the TDP, said in Delhi: “It’s like a marriage alliance. It should be either 100 per cent or zero per cent. Let us hope for the best.â€
