Lucknow: In a rear-end collision, two trains rammed into each other in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh on early Thursday morning. Reportedly, at least two people died and 5 others were injured.
The trains involved in the accident were Katni Passenger train and Varanasi-Shaktinagar Intercity Express. The incident took place near Obra in Uttar Pradesh. As per media reports, the last coach of Katni Passenger train has been badly dismantled.
Last year, seven major accidents occured claiming several lives. As reported by Reuters, about 40 people on average die every day on India’s vast but decrepit railway network. Many of the victims are slum dwellers who live near the railway lines and use them as open toilets. Some passengers fell over from crowded commuter trains.
