Click a selfie and support the education of a girl child

Bangalore September 9, 2014: Inorbit Mall, Whitefield is proud to support Breakthrough and Vodafone Foundation in collaboration with Educate Girls, an NGO that works on the ground to help girls access their right to education and are committed to ensure that at least 25000 girls do not drop out of school. With #Selfies4School campaign, Breakthrough will strive to ensure that adolescent girls are allowed to continue their schooling, thereby enabling them to acquire life skills through education.

Inorbit Mall invites you to be a part of #Selfies4School campaign and join hands for girl’s education.

Every Selfie that is received as a part of this campaign will ensure that ten girls go to school. Kiosks will be placed in the mall, where Inorbit visitors can physically come and get their Selfie clicked with their message and upload it. Every person submitting a Selfie will be given a badge or a bookmark.

Selfie can also be shared directly by logging on to: https://breakthrough.tv/selfies4school..

Furthermore, a Freeze mob will take place on 13th September, in which the participants will freeze holding placards in the area near the kiosk.

This issue is relevant and supported by Inorbit because they believe while education is widely accepted as the key to better living, independence and self-reliance, there is another reason why it is important that young girls stay in school.

According to a UNICEF report, India has 47% of the world’s child brides! And these disturbing statistics are not just about rural India, but cuts across the urban-rural divide, depriving young girls of access to education, health and other opportunities. Many girls in rural and sometimes in urban India too are pulled out of school and married off at a very tender age. Parents often believe wrongly that marriage is the best way to guarantee their daughter’s physical safety and ensure a secure future. However, the truth is that early marriage subjects these young girls to high risk of domestic violence, rape within marriage and even possible death during childbirth.

While early marriage is largely perceived as a problem of rural India, there is a need to debunk this myth. It is only when everyone joins hands together, can we stop the prevalence of early marriage and help ensure a better future for young girls.

Inorbit Mall Whitefield is aiming to spread the message of Right to Education for girl child by supporting this campaign for 3 days at the mall – 12th, 13th and 14th September 2014.

The event is a part of Inorbit Connect, under which the mall conducts events that cater to various social causes and issues.
