Bangalore: Experts in the field of kids’ education today opined that a collaborative approach is needed to ensure the all-round growth of children from an early stage with an appropriate intervention through proven teaching techniques and adequate attention to the wards from all aspects by the stakeholders concerned.

This consensus was evolved at the ‘Open Day’ at Ekya School – an interactive session with experts in early childhood domain to help parents understand child health, nutrition, safety, security, and mental well-being and many more. The event saw the participation of a psychologist, pediatrician, and child safety expert who interacted with the audience on various matters.

The event was unique in several ways and open to all and more than 200 parents attended the unique session.

According to them, the first 2 to 5 years of a student is responsible for the growth and evolution into an adult. Life skills such as social, emotional, creative and physical skills are at work during this age group. Confidence and self-esteem are crucial, hence peers and teachers alike play a significant role at school, they contended.

Dr. K.R. Bharath Kumar Reddy, MBBS, MD (Paediatrics), DMLE, a Pediatric Pulmonologist, emphasized on the role of health of children in shaping their early days.

He pointed out that sleep is an extremely important aspect for healthy growth of a child. “A child in the age group 2.5 to 5 years should ideally sleep by 8 pm for about 12 hours. There should be no TV in the bedroom and make sure that there is break of 1 hour after watching TV or any such engagement with visual content, otherwise the images that get registered in the brain may flash through while sleeping reducing the effectiveness of the sleep,†he said.

He also brought to fore another pertinent issue of the current age. “Many Kids tend to socialize very less even with parents, as they spend more time with mobile phones, tablets and computers. Providing the right quantity and quality of Attention and time to children is the key to avoid this situation,†Dr. Bharath added.

Ms. Ashika Thusu, Ekya Early Years Curriculum Specialist, pointed out that focuses of education should be on a holistic approach in discovering and nurturing the natural talent, intelligence and creativity of children, giving them their space to receive, respond and progress continuously, tapping their capability to think and express thoughts & skills. The approach should be subtle and scientific with specifically designed curriculum, systems and non-scholastic activities. “A school like Ekya that caters to academic, creative and social growth of children seamlessly is one of the best examples for this approach,†she added.

“The research team at EKYA along with their teachers is responsible for developing the teaching methodology and curriculum, which goes through an iterative process of testing and continuous gradation. When new teachers are inducted they are taken through a process consisting of workshops, trainings, mentoring by the leadership team and classroom monitoring in order to get them aligned and integrated into the System of Learning and Development,†said Tristha Ramamurthy, Director of Ekya Schools and VP, CMR Group of Institutions.

At EKYA Schools, students are encouraged to go well beyond the curriculum and they believe in the power of a collaborative approach to education. Each child is imbibed with a sense of belonging to a greater whole while their individual contributions are valued and cherished. Students get to have a stimulating and safe environment to explore and express their ideas. The value of togetherness is imbibed in them while maintaining and honing their individuality.

Apart from the Kanakapura Early Years Campus, EKYA has two more campuses in Bangalore located at ITPL and JP Nagar with approximately 700 students studying in all the campuses collectively. The JP Nagar School is affiliated to ICSE whereas the ITPL School is affiliated to the CBSE Board. Their programs are divided into Early Childhood Program, Primary School, Middle School and Senior School.

About Ekya Schools

The word Ekya is derived from the Sanskrit sounds of unity and individuality. It embodies the spirit of collaboration and togetherness while allowing space for the individual to grow and express oneself. The school forms the foundation for a child’s future, which is why we stress on a collaborative approach. Between you and us, between the teachers and us, and more importantly, between our teachers and your child. We believe in the power of a collaborative approach to education. In today’s highly individualistic society, we have lost sight of the benefits of working and learning from each other. At Ekya Schools, each child is imbibed with a sense of belonging to a greater whole while their individual contributions are valued and cherished. We provide your child with a stimulating and safe environment to explore and express their ideas. The value of togetherness is imbibed in them while maintaining and honing their individuality. The school is supported by the CMR Group of Institutions and National Public Schools.
