New Delhi/New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for the United States for his much-talked about trip, which is expected to boost bilateral ties. The PM reportedly seeks to promote India’s pro-business image and soothe strained relations with the US after a bitter diplomatic row.
A major highlight of his tour would be his address at the iconic Madison Square Garden, slated for September 28. Narendra Modi would draw more than 18,000 people at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday, the biggest crowd by a foreign leader on US soil.
Sources said the event would be a private one, so the timing has not been shared.
Meanwhile, the security has been beefed up around the venue.
Reports quoted the organisers as saying that due to the tremendous demand for tickets they had to restrict almost 450 associations that became ‘welcoming partners’.
Almost 15,000 free tickets have been distributed through the associations as well as individuals by lottery.
Moreover, those who have not managed to land tickets can queue up at New York’s Times Square where Modi’s speech would be telecast live on a large screen.
