A woman named Amirah Droudis is understood to be the girlfriend of Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis. Droudis, in a chilling video posted on YouTube, claims to be a terrorist who is unapologetic about the Holocaust and 9/11.

On Tuesday, Sydney police spent three hours at the 35-year-old Droudis’ home after her long-time lover Monis was killed in gunfire on Tuesday at the end of the 17-hour siege in Martin Place.

In 2013, Droudis was convicted of aiding and abetting her boyfriend to send offensive letters to the families of fallen Australian soldiers. In the video above that appears on YouTube and was uploaded in 2009, Droudis wears a niqab and says:

“I regret to say I am a terrorist.

I admit and formally confess that for many years I have been a terrorist, but I’ll try not to be anymore.”

A link to Monis’ website appears at the bottom of the video. In a separate upload, she says “(Muslims) must be happy with any act of God”, including acts of terrorism such as the 9/11 attacks.

“We must submit to God’s will. If anyone is to be blamed it is the US Government, that, with the oppressive behaviour that has been the cause of God’s punishment. We must complain from the corrupted politicians. Not from God. Yes we are happy about the punishment of September 11.

Yes we are happy about the punishment in Bali. Yes we are happy about the punishment of the Holocaust and any other punishment that God sends to us. It is not fair if we condemn the rapist without condemning the one who has encouraged the rape.”

The couple drew headlines in 2009 for a video posted on his website saying that rape victims invited their attacks and should be condemned. The pair were found guilty last year of sending “offensive and deplorable” letters to the families of seven Australian Diggers who lost their lives serving in Afghanistan. Droudis pleaded guilty to her charge of aiding and abetting Monis in sending the letters, and had her sentence deferred provided she followed a two-year bond. Monis avoided jail time but was sentenced to 300 hours of community service.

At the time of the siege on Monday, Monis was out on bail for his role in the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Noleen Hayson Pal.
