One smart police station in each state: Home Minister Rajnath Singh

To set up one modern police station in every state, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday asked the state governments to submit their proposals with specific location and components by the end of January 2015.

The home minister has also decided to allocate specific funds for these smart police stations.

“As the first step towards smart policing, the home minister has decided to set up one model smart police station in each state. He also asked the state governments to submit their proposals by Jan 31, 2015,” a government release said.

It said that the home ministry will work with state governments for setting up more smart police station during the next financial year.

“Efforts will also be made to involve the private sector and their corporate social responsibility programmes to expand the role of smart police stations,” the release said.

The release added that the smart police station would become the foundation towards smart policing.

“A smart police station should be citizen friendly and clean. It should also meet the operational and welfare needs of the police personnel posted there. Basic amenities for visitors, waiting area, toilets, drinking water, receptionist whom the visitors can meet,” the release said.
