New Delhi, Jan 15: Ahead of Delhi assembly polls, former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi on Thursday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Flanked by Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Bedi, who was earlier attached with India Against Corruption led by Anna Hazare, became a member of the party by dialling the toll-free number started for the BJP’s mass membership drive.
Addressing a press conference after joining the party, Bedi gave ample indications that she will be the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate.
“I have 40 years of administrative experience, now I am here to present my experience to Delhi,” she said.
“I am in mission-mode now. With our team work we will work towards a steady, stable and corruption-free govt,” she added.
Welcoming Bedi in the party-fold, party president Amit Shah said that her entry will strengthen the party.
“Bedi’s entry into BJP will strengthen the party in Delhi. She will contest Assembly polls,” party chief Amit Shah told reporters.
Shah and even Narendra Modi had shown interest in her joining the party.
Both Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal were together in the Team Anna during the Jan Lokpal campaign. It was at the time of Kejriwal launching his political outfit the AAP that Kiran Bedi distanced herself from him. Later, Bedi became a Modi admirer during the Lok Sabha elections. She was also critical of Kejriwal allegedly using Anna to take a plunge into power politics.
