THE man whose house is being searched by police looking for missing three-year-old William Tyrell is a tradesman who was due to visit his grandmother’s home on the day he disappeared, police sources have said.
The washing machine repairman is assisting police with their inquiries into the boy’s mystery disappearance.
Police sources said the man had visited William’s grandmother’s home on Monday March 9 to quote a washing machine repair and was due to return on September 12 but did not turn up.
The man has told police that on September 12 he met with his wife for a coffee in town
before they went together for a presentation at their grandchild’s primary school around the time William vanished.
There is no suggestion the man will be charged and he is only one of several lines of inquiry police are currently exploring.
Superintendent Paul Fehon confirmed more resources had been brought in to assist with the investigation at a press conference this morning but played down any suggestion the developments were a “major breakthrough”.
“I don’t describe it as a major breakthrough. It is a line of inquiry we’re taking as part of the normal investigation phase for an investigation of this nature,” he said.
“Additional resources have been provided in relation to the searches and specialist police have attended and that is normal for an investigation of this type.”
Supt Fehon said William’s family were being kept up to date with the ongoing investigation.
“The family have been updated in regards to these developments and they will continually be updated as part of the normal advice back to them as to the progress of the investigation.”
The man whose house is being raided has been appealing for help to find the missing boy, saying: “Don’t give up looking”.
On his Facebook page, the man, a local grandfather, has been posting updates about the four-month search for the little boy who disappeared on September 12 last year.
On December 4 the man shared a link to a photo of little William in a blue checked shirt and a message that said: “Today, somebody is keeping a secret. They got up this morning. Had breakfast. Realized they need to pick up some more milk. Wasted time on Facebook. Made some calls. All the while maintaining a poker face.”
The man added his own message: “Don’t give up looking.”
On December 7 he shared a link to the page Bring Little Spiderman William Tyrell home that marked three months since William went missing.
“Where is he?” the man posted.
Police have today focused their search on a cavity under the house and were seen taking a spade into the area.
A caravan park at Laurieton, about 15 minutes from Bonny Hill, was also searched by police last week as part of their investigation after a resident complained about hearing a child’s screams.
