New Delhi Jan 24: Call it irony or a coincidence, the rape survivor of the Uber rape case in Delhi gets a mail from the cab company saying that it is back in Delhi. Reports are rife that the tainted Uber Technologies Inc taxi services have restarted in New Delhi after a ban following the rape allegations against one of the drivers. However, government sources confirmed that the company remains blacklisted.
“They can’t start operations. They don’t have a license yet, they have only applied for it,” said the senior transport official. Interestingly, the US-based lawyer hired by the financial executive who was raped by the driver said that the latter was emailed to inform her that “they have re-entered the market in Delhi.”
The lawyer, Dougla Wigdor said,”We had made it clear to Uber that the rape victim wanted to be part of a consultation process regarding safety procedures to ensure that no other person becomes a victim at the hands of an Uber driver.”
India is Uber’s largest market and post the rape, it has assured its customers of higher safety standards, stringent driver checks and an in-app emergency button and a dedicated incident response team. “We are setting an even higher standard than current industry requirements,” Uber said in a statement.
