Benagaluru 23 January 2015 : India’s best selling car for the last 10 years, Maruti Suzuki Alto, has emerged as the largest selling small car in the world in 2014 competing the likes of Volkswagen Golf in Germany and Daihatsu Tanto, Toyota Aqua and Honda Fit in Japan.
In 2014, Alto has sold 264,544 units in India ahead of Golf’s sales of 255,044 in Germany and Tanto’s 234,456 units, Aqua’s 233,209 and Fit’s 202,838 in Japan.
Maruti Suzuki Swift has occupied the Sixth Position. Brazil, being the largest market for the small cars in the world, Fiat Palio and Volkswagen GoL has able to occupy the 6th and 7th positions.
For the last 4 years, Alto has been on the top three for the three successive years in a row. In the year 2011, a whopping 3 lakhs units sold in India.
The Alto 800 and the Alto K10 are the two models available in the market. In Karnataka Region, Alto has sold 6956 units till December 2014.
