If you think drug addiction was a problem of late eighties and early nineties, you must turn towards Bollywood, where cocaine, marijuana and heroin are consumed in hush-hush gatherings, rave parties, social dos and private cocktails by stars, so much idolized by the unsuspecting fans.
While at least two dozen actors, some very popular ones are believed to be doing drugs, the absence of concrete proof prevents us from naming them. From being rushed to hospitals after sudden collapse, to appearing in public dazed, wide eyed and clueless and from red nose from snuffing substance to shrunken frame and needle pricks hidden with tattoos-they have been risking their life and the love of their followers for momentary pleasure. Sanjay Dutt
Before the 1993 bomb blast case, Sanjay Dutt had spent few months in jail for possession of illegal drugs. The ‘Munnabhai’ of Bollywood confessed that he was addicted to drugs for nine years. From cocaine to heroin, he had tried everything. He was sent to the US to a rehabilitation centre by his concerned father
Fardeen Khan
Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan was caught buying a small quantity of cocaine. His case fell under Section 27 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which dealt with “illegal possession in small quantity for personal consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or actual consumption of such a drug”. First-time offenders caught under Section 27 can avail of immunity from prosecution under Section 64A of NDPS Act, provided they undergo de-addiction treatment.
