Could it be? Gasp! Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav actually – gasp – ‘like’ PM Narendra Modi? Underneath all that bitter bluster and those fiery soundbytes, are the fierce political rivals actually BFFs?
It certainly looked liked it on Saturday, when PM Modi dropped in to Mulayam Singh’s grand nephew Tej Pratap’s Tilak ceremony (he is marrying Lalu’s daughter), creating many ‘I see it but I don’t believe it’ photo opportunities for all of us to gawk at. Given that Lalu was also behind the ousting of Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi because he had dared to praise Modi, the photos are all the more stunning.
* Love is all around us
Here are some of the best pictures from the occasion:
It’s just too much. Lalu holding Modi’s hand as he gazes adoringly at the Prime Minister. Mulayam smiling at both of them in syrupy fashion. Modi looking like there’s no place he’d rather be. What is this, people? The twilight zone?
Has Mulayam had enough?
Modi got cheers from guests who were invitees of his political rivals and stole the limelight as the two Yadav clans lined up to pose with him for group photographs. But seriously, check out the expression on Mulayam’s face.
Modi also sat with Akhilesh Yadav’s youngest daughter, Tina. According to TOI, “The Prime Minister lovingly picked her up in his lap as he interacted with other children who were trying to have a closer look of him”. What could he possibly telling her? To shun politics perhaps? Whatever it is, Lalu looks concerned
The PM looks a bit disgruntled that everyone else seems to be trooping on to the stage.
