There is no respite for the bowlers at ICC World Cup 2015. It is turning out to be a batsman’s game as Australia today broke India’s World Cup record in their Pool A match against debutants Afghanistan at WACA ground.
Match Scorecard; World Cup Special
The hosts piled on 417/6 in 50 overs to register the highest World Cup score. They were sent to bat by Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi after winning the toss. India held the record with 413/5 against Bermuda which they posted in 2007 edition.
This is the third score of 400 and above at World Cup 2015.
David Warner led Australia’s record batting display with an aggressive 178 while Glenn Maxwell smashed a 39-ball 88. Steve Smith fell for 95. Maxwell could have broken the fastest World Cup hundred held by Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien (off 50 balls) but missed out.
The way batsmen are dominating in World Cup 2015, we can expect more records to be shattered.
