Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has said that drastic increase in the defence budget of India is a cause of great concern for Pakistan and other neighbouring countries. Talking to newsmen in his hometown Sangla Hill on Sunday, he said that India’s war hysteria would not only create tension in the region but would also increase human rights violation in Occupied Kashmir.
The GB governor called on the world community to take notice of the increased Indian defence budget.
Barjees said that Kashmir dispute was the basic point of contention and the issue was the cause of conventional and nuclear arms race in the region.
He said the present Pakistani government soon after assuming power extended hand of friendship towards India but unfortunately India construed the desire of peace as weakness. He said that later India not only demonstrated its war hysteria at Line of Control and Working Boundary but also sabotaged the process of dialogue.
The PML-N stalwart said that Pakistan was a peace-loving country and opposed to arms race in the region. He said that it was the desire of Pakistan that Kashmir dispute should be resolved soon and both the countries spend their resources on alleviation of poverty and development and welfare of their peoples.
