Youth arrested for false message about Dharmasthala on social media

A person, who allegedly was spreading slanderous messages through WhatsApp and Facebook about Dharmasthala establishment and its Dharmadhikari, was arrested on Wednesday March 11. Police circle inspector B R Lingappa made this arrest.

The arrested person has been identified as Naveen K Gowda (25), a resident of Kolenjiroddi House in Rekhya village near Enjira in the taluk. He is an auto rickshaw driver by profession.

It is said that a number of derogatory, imaginary and damaging messages about Dharmasthala temple and Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, had been routed through his cell phone.

Creation of fake information and sending or forwarding them through social websites like Facebook and Whatsapp are punishable offences.

It is said that some persons including Rajendra Das and Dhanakeerti Ariga have also filed complaints of spreading defamatory messages about them. Police are on the lookout of more suspects in the case.

It is said that the arrested person has confessed to the crime. In the meantime, some other pages of the Facebook which were engaged in spreading malice like the above, have been found to be blocked.

The accused is likely to be produced in the court on Thursday.
