Putting all speculations surrounding the 2022 World Cup finale’s possible dates at rest, FIFA has confirmed that the football’s pinnacle tournament’s grand showdown will be held on 18 December.
Earlier in February, a FIFA taskforce suggested that the tournament should be switched from summer to winter.
In light of the decision, Walter De Gregorio, FIFA’s director of communications said that they were going to play in November and December, adding that the final was going to be played on 18 December, and it was also the national day of Qatar, the BBC reported.
The traditional June-July time would have proved difficult to host the tournament in the Gulf State due to the high summer temperatures, which could have posed a serious risk to players’ health.
