Doctors from St. Martha’s Hospital, Student Nurses from St. Martha’s College of Nursing do their bit on World Health Day

Provide Free Health Consultation, education and Food Safety to 120 Children of Don BOSCO ManeBengaluru, April 7th, 2015: This World Health Day, St Martha’s Hospital did its bit to help make the world a healthier place. A team of 4 doctors from the hospital and 20 nurses from their nursing college on the hospital premises headed to Don Bosco Mane in Chamrajpet which is home to around 120 youngsters across the ages of 3  and  15 years.

From 10AM to 3PM, the medical team evaluated the basic health of all children. The youngsters were checked for faulty vision and skin-related issues among other ailments.

All basic medication was provided on the spot. Where a child needed further specialized treatment, reference letters to a specific doctor at the hospital were provided immediately. These letters listed out the name of the doctor to visit and the appointment time. The specialised consults were free of charge.

Besides this, in keeping with the international theme of World Health Day for 2015 – Food Safety, the nurses of St Martha’s also spent time educating the youngsters on the importance of  personal hygiene and healthy food are the simple steps that they can ensure they are getting the right nutrition.

Speaking on this initiative, Jayakar Jerome, the Director of St Martha’s Hospital says, “Basic health care should be the right of every individual. We believe it would be best to catch small ailments in these children right at the beginning to prevent them from becoming more complicated with time. This was a small effort towards this goal.â€
