President Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of eminent Tamil writer D Jayakanthan.
The official twitter page of the Rashtrapati Bhavan shared the President’s condolence message.
“In sad demise of Shri D. Jayakanthan , we have lost a creative genius who contributed immensely to Tamil literature,” it posted.
Jayakanthan, who was the recipient of the prestigious Jnanpith and Sahitya Akademi awards, passed away in Chennai on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. Russia had conferred its state decoration the Order of Friendship award on him in 2011.
The 83-year-old Padma Bushan awardee had written around 40 novels and over 200 short stories.
