A tornado that struck the U.S.-Mexico border has killed at least 13 people in the Mexican town of Ciudad Acuna in Coahuila and three in Texas, destroying hundreds of homes in the region.

At least 10 adults and three children were confirmed dead while, 150 had been hospitalized in Acuna, the Mexican city just across the border from Texas. Mayor Evaristo Lenin Perez said that it was the first time that a tornado had hit the city since it was founded almost 100 years ago and added that about 200 homes had been destroyed completely.

In Texas, at least 12 people were reported to be missing after a vacation home they were staying in was swept away by flood water in a small town popular amid tourists.
