At least 20 people have been rescued and hundreds still remain missing after a Chinese ship carrying more than 450 people sank on the Yangtze River in China’s southern Hubei province, according to reports.
At least one person was confirmed dead while several people who swum to the shore alerted the police with the help of fishermen.
The boat did not send out an SOS signal before sinking, said reports.
China’s Premier Li Keqiang is travelling to the site and has ordered a team from the state council to lead the search and rescue operation.
Most of the people on board were tourists around the age of 50 to 80.
