Star Proteas batsman AB de Villiers has won South Africa’s Cricketer of the Year for the second successive year, including four other awards at a gala Cricket South Africa (CSA) banquet event in Midrand
Having won the South African Cricketer of the Year for the second consecutive year, De Villiers has matched the performance of former paceman Makhaya Ntini, who had received the award in 2005 and 2006.
The 27-year-old batsman was named ODI Cricketer of the Year, Cricketers’ Cricketer of the Year, SA Fan’s Cricketer of the Year and also got the ‘So Good Award’ for scoring the fastest century in the history of ODI cricket against the West Indies in December 2014.
CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said that AB was just so special and surely must be the best all-round cricketer in the world, adding that his performances were sheer class and his number two ranking in Test match cricket and number one in ODI cricket only tells a part of his amazing skills.
The other major awards went to Hashim Amla as Test Cricketer of the Year and Morne van Wyk as Ticketpro T20 Cricketer of the Year, while Dale Steyn won the RAM Delivery of the Year and Rilee Rossouw was named SA Newcomer of the Year.
Shabnim Ismail was named Momentum Women’s Cricketer of the Year.
