scientists  found a newIn a breakthrough, scientists have found a new drug that promises to fight flu, bringing a dramatic reduction in death rates.

Canadian researchers have found a drug called vasculotide, was effective against multiple strains of influenza, including the 2009 swine flu pandemic strain.

Dr Warren Lee that the present treatments for the virus were “inadequate,” and the new drug may represent a “novel and practical therapy for severe infections with influenza.”

He added that a mutation could lead to an extremely dangerous killer strain of the virus, as was in the 1918 pandemic.

The scientists have now applied for a US patent for the drug.
