Uttar Pradesh Food and Drug Administration finds detergent in Mother Dairy milk sample

After the Uttar Pradesh Food and Drug Administration found traces of detergents in samples of Mother Dairy’s milk packets, the company denied the charge, maintaining that the milk it supplies goes through repeated tests on a regular basis.

“The samples which were collected in December have allegedly been found to be not meeting up to standards and has some adulterants as reported. We have not yet perceived the final reports from the Calcutta retesting facilities,” Mother Dairy managing director S Nagarajan said.

“Having said that, these samples have been collected from a truck which had not even reached our collection centre.

Milk which comes to the collection centre moves to the chilling centre, from the chilling centre to the factory. It goes through repeated tests on a 100 percent basis and not on a sample basis,” he added.

He further said that it is unfortunate that the sample has been attributed to Mother Dairy packaged milk.

“That is what we want to assure the consumers that we have tests at every stage. We do 23 tests on every milk sample that comes in the factory. It is also tested before it goes out of the factory to ensure that milk which reaches the consumer is safe.

We collect 100 samples everyday from the market to ensure that milk available for the consumer is very safe,” Nagarajan said.
