Visitors to Orion Mall were in for a musical surprise on the evening of 8th August. Set up by the Lakeside was the Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra (AWSO) of the Indian Air Force which played a live musical concert from 6 pm to 8pm for the general public just ahead of Independence Day Celebrations. The entry to this concert was free and it was heart-warming to see scores of people rooted to the spot, taking in the patriotism and harmony exuded by the band.
Members of the band are hand-picked from various Air Force bands with the main objective of connecting to the patriotic side of the masses through music.
The parents of two pre-schoolers spoke of how it was their children who pulled them into the audience on hearing the lovely music emanating from the various instruments used by the band such as, violin, clarinet, trumpet, guitar, drums, accordion, etc. The parents reiterated how amazing it was to see their children take in the music and stay so still till the end.
Many in the audience spoke of a patriotic rush they felt on listening to the music. In fact, one young techie said, We only hear of our armed forces and see them on TV. It was an honour to see them in real life and listen to the beautiful music they created.
On popular demand the lead singer also obliged by singing bollywood songs likes Tum Hi Ho from the movie Aashiqi 2 and Tune Maari Entriyaan.
About Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra
Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra was formed by IAF in June 2002 at Air Force Station, Jalahalli, with hand-picked musicians from various Air Force Bands. The Orchestra has performed many concerts across the world like France, Italy, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They have also participated in International Military Music Festivals in Finland, France, Italy and Malaysia. In the year 2005, the Indian Air Force band became the first Asian member of the International Military Music Society based at Norway.
In the year 2007, Indian Air Force hosted and participated in the first ever International Military Music Festival in India along with the Air Force bands from countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and USA.
