A radio enthusiast named Adrian Lane had least expected that the radio signal he sent out would actually reach the International Space Station, and get him to chat a US astronaut.
Lane of Gloucestershire has been trying for a month of to get through from his shed, and “talked” to an astronaut chatted for about 45 seconds, before the station was out of range and the signal lost.
He said he got a response where someone said, “Receiving you – welcome aboard the International Space Station.”
It was very hectic time on the bands with people were trying hard to get through the “contact window,” and with his “adrenaline pumping” Lane quickly asked the astronaut what the stars looked like from up there, to which the reply was “with no atmosphere up here the stars are really bright.”
The astronaut further said that looking at Earth was really something as it looked like a mass of colour where everything else up there was black.
Though disappointed that their chat got over quickly, Lane said that it was really an achievement considering someone was flying over him at 17,500 mph, and he would try fro it again.
