Explosion at US Army base in Japanese city of Sagamihara

Firefighters are tackling a blaze triggered by an explosion at a US Army base in the Japanese city of Sagamihara.

The Pentagon in Washington has said that so far no injuries have been reported from the facility.

Reports said that the blast occurred just after midnight on Monday.

The Sagami Depot is a U.S. Army post located about 40 kilometres south-west of Tokyo.

Attempts are being made to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
