Credits 1 day Casual LeaveSt Martha’s Encourages Employees to Vote

St Martha’s Hospital had a novel idea for its voting eligible staff to encourage them to vote during the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections scheduled for today without compromising on the functioning of the hospital.

Employees were allowed to take time out of their working hours to cast their vote. On display of the indelible voting ink mark on their index finger, each employee was provided a day’s casual leave that they can avail of at a later date.

Several organizations offer their employees a day off in order to be able to cast their vote.

However, being a hospital, a day off can affect the seamless medical services that are provided by the hospital to its patients. The hospital has opted to provide such an option to its voting employees to ensure that no one is kept from their rights – to vote or to seek medical help.

Speaking on the providing of this option, Mr. Jayakar Jerome, Director, St Martha’s Hospital says, “It is the fundamental duty and the privilege of every eligible citizen to step forward and exercise his franchise. We felt that this option of a short time off for voting and a casual leave at a later date will help not only our staff but our patients as well.
