An elderly American citizen of Sikh origin and a father of two was brutally assaulted and allegedly called a “terrorist” and “Bin Laden” in an apparent hate crime case in Chicago earlier this week.
Inderjit Singh Mukker was assaulted on Tuesday, while heading towards a grocery store.
According to reports, the assaulter repeatedly cut off Mukker’s car and aggressively abused him before attacking his person.
Police in the Darien area of Chicago, has told them that they are investigating the hate crime attack that began as an incident of road rage.
Police, however, did not give detailed specifics of the crime committed.
Mukker, a cab driver, was heading to a grocery store on Cass Avenue, when he was accosted, abused and attacked.
Mukker was ferociously punched repeatedly in the face; reports quoted Sikh Coalition Legal Director Harsimran Kaur, as telling NBC Chicago.
He has suffered a cheek fracture and a laceration that required six stitches. He has blackened eyes, bruising and swelling all over his face, Kaur was quoted, as saying further.
She said that Mukker was possibly targeted because he was wearing articles of his faith.
The attacker has been taken into custody and is being investigated.
