Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein has announced his intention to run again for the FIFA presidency, four months after losing to Sepp Blatter in the previous election.
The 39-year-old Jordanian stressed that the world soccer’s governing body would only change through new leadership, untainted by the practices of the past.
Prince Ali said in a speech in the Jordanian capital that they must overcome deep-seated corruption and political deal making in order to reform the crisis-ridden organisation.
Prince Ali, son of the late King Hussein of Jordan, is the third candidate to declare candidacy after UEFA chief Michel Platini of France, and former Asia vice-president Chung Mong-joon of South Korea.
Blatter, who was re-elected for a fifth term in May as president, stood down from the position amidst an investigation into corruption charges that has plunged FIFA into an unprecedented crisis.
FIFA’s reputation has been severely tarnished after 14 sports marketing executives and football officials, including several from Zurich-based FIFA, were indicted by the United States in late May over corruption charges.
