Eoin Morgan smashed a sparkling half-century as England levelled the five-match ODI series with a three-wicket win over Australia in the fourth one-day international at Headingley.

England chased down the challenging 300-run target in the penultimate over to set up the series decider at Manchester’s Old Trafford on Sunday.

Morgan scored 92, his third consecutive half-century, and shared a 91-run partnership with Ben Stokes (41) and 58 with Jonny Bairstow (31) to steer home to victory.

The match was poised for a nail-biting finish as the hosts required 18 more runs to win after the dismissal of captain Morgan and Liam Plunkett (17), thanks to Glenn Maxwell’s superb two catches.

However, Moeen Ali (21) and David Willey (12) held their nerve as they remained unbeaten to help England cross over the line with 10 balls to spare.

Opting to bat first, Australia made an excellent recovery to reach 299/7 from a precarious position of 30-3. Maxwell smacked a quick-fire 85 and was backed by George Bailey (75) and wicketkeeper batsman Matthew Wade (50).

Fast bowler Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for the tourists as he scalped four wickets.
