American boxer Floyd Mayweather has equaled former world heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano’s record of 49 straight wins by beating challenger Andre Berto in Las Vegas on Saturday.
The 38-year-old outboxed Bertoon over the 12 rounds to defend his WBC and WBA welterweight titles.
The American was awarded the verdict 120-108, 118-110 and 117-111.
Unbeaten US boxing champion landed 232 of 410 punches while Berto, who suffered his fourth defeat in last seven fights, connected with just 83 of 495.
Mayweather purported finale bout, however, failed to generate similar public interest which was seen during the feverish build-up to ‘Fight of the Century’ between him and Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather had earlier declared that his bout against Berto would be his last as a professional boxer.
