Dr. Ajit Bhide, Psychiatrist at St Martha’s Hospital, honoured with “Eminent Psychiatrist of the Year Award

Dr. Ajit Bhide, Head Of the Department, at St Martha’s Hospital was felicitated as “Eminent Psychiatrist of the Year†by The Indian Psychiatrist Society – Karnataka Chapter at its annual conference at Shimoga

Dr. Ajit Bhide has served at St Martha’s Hospital for 28 years and has been the head of the Department of Psychiatry since 1996. He was instrumental in setting up the Family Medicine Department at St Martha’s in 2000.

Dr. Bhide has an impressive portfolio of work which spans across his own field of psychiatry as well as several personal interests. He is a popular teacher of psychiatry at both the undergraduate and post-graduate level.

He is regularly invited to speak at CMEs across the country and is personally involved with the work of several NGOs. Dr. Bhide served at the Vice-President of the Medico Pastoral Association for several years, right up to 2014.

His specialty in psychiatry is that of adolescent and preventive psychiatry. He also takes a special interest in psychotherapy.

Dr. Bhide also has a creative side to his personality, having worked extensively in theater and films. He is a popular quiz master as well. His ability to organize State, Zonal as well as National Psychiatric Conferences is legendary.

Speaking on being a recipient of this recognition, Dr.

Bhide says, “It is an honor to be recognized for my work in this field. The field of psychiatry is a vast one and there is something new to learn each day; something that we can use to help more people. That is the focus with which I will move forward and encourage all doctors to do so as well.â€
