The Ministry of External Affairs ( MEA) has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK has set on course the relations between the two countries to become a leading global partnership.

“During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first visit to the United Kingdom, we have resolved to reinvigorate our relations and set it decisively on a course to become a leading global partnership for both of us,” Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

He said that renewed partnership between both sides will transform the lives of 1.25 billion people in India.

“Our partnership can contribute to India’s ambitious plans to transform the lives of 1.25

billion people and UK’s goal to rebalance its economy and sustain its global leadership in areas ranging from aerospace to financial services,” Swarup said while addressing a press conference in London.

He said that both governments will work together towards progress and transforming the lives of people in both countries.

“Our governments will work together to accelerate progress and transform the lives of our people. We will invest in skills for this century and create high quality jobs for our people. We will cooperate in health and education to advance human development,” he said.

Swarup said both nations will invest in infrastructure and promote manufacturing, including in areas of advanced technologies, with the lightest possible footprint on earth.

“In doing so, we will leverage our myriad private partnerships, the extraordinary enterprise, resources and capabilities of our private sector and our markets, including the City of London and the financial sector of India,” Swarup said.

He added, “We will be at the leading edge of research, technology and innovation in realising the vision of a low carbon future, while meeting the development aspirations of our people. We will power the lives of our people with clean energy that is affordable and accessible. And we will partner in making our rivers cleaner, our habitats healthier and build smart, sustainable cities in which everyone can prosper.”
