Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart David Cameron have announced that a UK-India Year of Culture will be organised in 2017 to celebrate the deep cultural ties and the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence.
The two Prime Ministers committed support to the digitisation of the shared archival collections housed in the British Library and the National Archives of India.
They welcomed the posthumous reinstatement of Shyamji Krishna Varma to the bar, noting his key role in the Indian independence movement and the inspiration he has provided to subsequent generations.
The two Prime Ministers welcomed the intention of the Indian Ministry of Tourism and the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism to promote safe and sustainable tourism between the two countries.
