Strong tremors were felt in parts of Delhi and National Capital Region on Saturday night after a moderate intensity earthquake of 6.5 magnitude on Richter Scale struck northeast Afghanistan near the country’s borders with Pakistan and Tajikistan.
According to the National Seismology division of Ministry of Earth Sciences, the earthquake occurred at 12:44 a.m. However, there is no report of any loss of life or damage to property.
As per the US Geological Survey, the earthquake, which hit at a depth of 203.5 kilometres, had its epicentre some 280 kilometres northeast of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.
People in the national capital region rushed out of their homes.
Mobile network also faced congestion with worried relatives calling each other to inquire about the well being of their family members.
Social media and social networking sites were flooded with the messages of earthquake.
