Revamped Premier Badminton League begins today

The revamped edition of the Premier Badminton League (PBL) will begin here on Saturday with the Saina Nehwal-led Awadhe Warriors taking on the hosts Mumbai Rockets in the opening match.

The League has been revived after a gap of two years following a successful inaugural Indian Badminton League in 2013.

Besides Mumbai, other five franchisee participating are Delhi Acers, Hyderabad Hunters, Bengaluru Top Guns, Chennai Smashers, and Lucknow-based Awadhe Warriors.

Malaysian veteran Lee Chong Wei was bagged by Hyderabad Hunters while World championship double bronze medallist PV Sindhu was snapped up by Chennai Smashers.

Kidambi Srikanth went to Bengaluru Top Guns whereas 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap was bagged by Hyderbad.

The second leg of the tournament, after its two-day stint in Mumbai, is to be held in Lucknow on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The winners will receive 3 crore rupees, the runners-up two crore rupees and the losing semi-finalists will get 75 lakh rupees each.
