India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi ratified the deal with his counterpart Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

Thousands of Bangladeshis inhabit more than 50 enclaves in India, while Indians live in around 100 areas within Bangladesh.

The countries will now swap territories and residents can choose where to live.

“We have resolved a question that has lingered since independence. Our two nations now have a settled boundary,” Mr Modi said at a press conference.

“We are not just neighbours, but nations bound by the threads of history, religion, culture, language and kinship – as well as a passion for cricket.”

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali described the agreement as “a historic milestone in the relationship between the two neighbouring countries”.

Mr Modi and Sheikh Hasina have also agreed to inaugurate a bus service that will link the Indian cities of Kolkata (Calcutta), Agartala, Guwahati and Shillong with Dhaka.

The agreement is significant because it is the first step by Bangladesh to allow road transit to India, a long-running Indian demand which it hopes will eventually enable it to have better access to its north-eastern states.

A new research has revealed that holding pessimistic beliefs about others may lower down your economic success later in life.

The research conducted by American Psychological Association studied cynicism and income level of people from different countries and observed that a high level of cynicism was associated with lower income especially in countries that had antisocial behavior.

Olga Stavrova, lead author on the study, said that the reason behind this could be that cynical individuals are less likely to trust others and therefore avoid collaborative projects and to forgo the related opportunities.

Stavrova concluded that their findings may help encouraging people to adopt a more benevolent and idealistic view of human nature and trustful attitude towards their peers.

HSBC cut Indian shares to “underweight” from “overweight”, saying markets were over-owned at a time when earnings were expected to slow and the scope of interest rate cuts were diminishing.

The downgrade to underweight is the first by a major foreign bank since Indian shares began a rally last year that culminated with the Nifty and Sensex indexes hitting record highs in early March.

However, some of the shine has come off Indian markets over the past few weeks as anger over minimum alternate tax claims has pummelled sentiment at a time of rising volatility in global markets.

Worries about the slowing pace of reforms have also contributed to the falls. India’s government spooked investors on Tuesday by deferring parliamentary bills intended to make it easier for businesses to buy land and harmonise national and state taxes.

Although HSBC did not refer directly to reforms, it recommended investors cut their positions in India.

“India remains one of the most over-owned markets in Asia, but earnings growth is slowing and there is little room for further rate cuts,” HSBC said in a note dated on Wednesday.

The downgrade comes at a time when foreign investors have sold nearly $2.2 billion worth of cash shares in the last 16 sessions, if excluding Japan’s Daiichi Sankyo’s (4568.T) block sale of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (SUN.NS) shares.

That marks a reversal of the heavy foreign buying of Indian shares since 2014 that had made the country “the most liked” among emerging markets, according to a Citigroup note this week.

Global investors are now shifting their funds to emerging markets such as China, South Korea and Taiwan.

Still, other investment banks are reiterating their bullish stance on India. Macquarie this week recommended investors use a 10 percent fall in Indian shares since their peak to go long.

A big boon for prevention of rusting of pipes in transit and at sites

Bengaluru 16th April 2015 : APL Apollo Tubes Limited, is the largest manufacturer of ERW steel pipes in India. It produces over 7 lac tonnes of pipes every year. The company has launched colour coated pipes in India. This is the first time that colour coated will be produced in the country.

The company has set up a state of the art painting facility at its state of the art facility at Murbad, near Mumbai. Commercial production of colour coated pipes has been started with help from technology imported from Turkey.

The pipes are painted with the chosen colour at the manufacturing location. The pipes are given a heat treatment to ensure that the colour lasts for years.

Mr Sanjay Gupta, Executive Chairman of the company said, “The colour coated pipes have been available abroad for some time. APL Apollo has taken the initiative to bring this technology to India now. We have received an extremely good response from the architects, structural consultants, fire fighting consultants.

Steel pipes are generally available bare, in steel neutral colour. These are then painted at site for aesthetics and rust prevention. This creates air and land pollution apart from being expensive. APL Apollo is solving this problem by painting the pipes in controlled condition in the factory. This is not only economical but also minimizes the impact on the environment. Painting in automatic lines also ensures better quality and longer life.

Pipes after manufacturing take time during transit and are exposed to varying environmental conditions. They can get superficial surface corrosion during transit particularly in humid weather. The colour coating of pipes before despatch will tackle this problem of rusting of pipes in transit and also when the pipes are lying at the sites for weeks or months before being utilized.

Moreover painting such rusted pipes not only involves greater effort to remove the rusting, but it also impacts the cost upwardly. The painting itself is not as good as it should be. This may affect its life as well.

Currently the colour coated pipes are available in two colours, Aqua Blue and Brick Red. Other colour options will also be available. All kinds of Black round and hollow sections, galvanized and pre galvanized pipes can be colour coated.

Ashok Gupta, Managing Director of the company said,” The pre-painted pipes will help maintain the sanctity of the specifications of the pipes at usage. The user has the option to put any colour coating on the top. The result is better final finish & aesthetic appeal. Whats more, the pre-painting process is environment friendly!

APL Apollo colour coated pipes are particularly suitable for use in Architectural and Structural applications, Roofing, Airports, warehouses, Expo centres, Fire fighting etc.

The company will continue to develop new products to compliment its wide basket of over 350 different pipes and sections.
