Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who presented his government’s ‘report card’ here on Monday, has said that the state is moving towards the path of development and there is growth in every sector.

“We have decided the agenda for governance and implemented it. We succeeded in implementing the agenda for governance that we decided. Not only this, we also launched the schemes which were not mentioned in the agenda and implemented it,” Kumar told the media here.

“In 2005, before we came into power we promised the people of Bihar that we would truly move towards the path of development .That was our leadership agenda….Bihar is moving towards development. Growth can be seen in every sector,” he added.

The Chief Minister further announced that presenting his government’s ‘report card’ had been an annual tradition since 2005.

It’s a relief for the gamers as China has finally decided to scrap its 15-year ban on video game consoles and companies like Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will now be allowed to manufacture and sell consoles anywhere in the country.

It is being said that back in 2000, these Game consoles were first banned due to fear that the devices and the 3D worlds produced by them could impact children’s mental and physical development negatively.

Though in 2014, China eased those restrictions by letting game console-makers operate in an experimental 11-square-mile area in Shanghai, those relaxed restrictions proved to be a major hurdle to console-makers, which had to enter into contracts to build new manufacturing facilities in the area.

However, now these restrictions have now been tossed entirely, opening up a massive new market for game consoles.

In a breakthrough discovery, scientists have revealed a new method which could lead to cheap, efficient metal-based solar cells.

Scientists from Rice’s Laboratory for Nanophotonics described a new method that solar-panel designers could use to incorporate light-capturing nanomaterials into future designs.

Bob Zheng, a graduate student and postdoctoral research associate Alejandro Manjavacas created a methodology that solar engineers could use to determine the electricity-producing potential for any arrangement of metallic nanoparticles.

Zheng said that one of the interesting phenomena that occurred when someone shined light on a metallic nanoparticle was that you can excite some subset of electrons in the metal to a much higher energy level.

Today’s most efficient photovoltaic cells use a combination of semiconductors that are made from rare and expensive elements like gallium and indium.

Zheng said that Plasmonic-based photovoltaics had low efficiencies, adding that it has not been entirely clear whether those arose from fundamental physical limitations or from less-than-optimal designs.

He said a recent example of such work comes from a pioneering experiment by another Rice graduate student, Ali Sobhani, where the absorption was concentrated near a metal semiconductor interface.

The scientists have spent years developing techniques to bolster the field-intensity enhancement of photonic structures for single-molecule sensing and other applications.

While you may love to gorge on eggs, meat and fish, researchers have revealed an amino acid which causes memory loss and is most abundant in such foods.

University of Louisville researchers investigated the effects of a diet rich in methionine, an amino acid, and found that it promoted memory loss through increased methylation of netrin, a protein important for maintaining the brain.

Dr Anuradha Kalani conducted an experiment along with other researchers, where mice were fed with a diet containing high amounts of methionine and low amounts of folate and vitamins B6 and B12.

They measured the mice’s memory capability along with netrin and methylation levels in the mice’s brains and found that the longer the mice were on the diet, the less netrin was expressed and the more the netrin gene was methylated.

The researchers noted that the data confirmed that a high-methionine diet induced learning and memory defects.

The researchers said that the studies had shown that a healthy diet can boost memory. However, their findings suggested that an excess methionine diet caused memory impairment and hyper-methylation that affected netrin expression, which was a protein important in maintaining synaptic plasticity and involved in axonal guidance and neurogenesis.

Having trouble in “achieving it?” Medical researchers have claimed that males who experience erectile dysfunction might face twice the risk of Type 2 Diabetes compared to males without such sexual incapability.

Dr. Sean Skeldon of University of Toronto said that this effect was more significant among middle-aged men between 40 to 59 years old.

He said that the probability of having undiagnosed diabetes increased from one in 50 in men without erectile dysfunction, to one in 10 in men with erectile dysfunction, the Health reported.

However, the study only found one link between impotence and Type 2 Diabetes, which didn’t prove a cause-and-effect relationship between the health issues.

Skeldon’s team collected data on more than 4,500 men 20 and older who took part in Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 200, and investigated the association of impotence with undiagnosed Type 2 Diabetes in that group.

The investigators didn’t find any link between keeping an erection and undiagnosed high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

Skeldon said that men with erectile dysfunction should see their doctors to ensure they were properly screened for diabetes, as it would help prevent heart disease down the road

Dr. Joel Zonszein of Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, said that these findings indicated that men with erectile dysfunction may have had undiagnosed diabetes for an extended time.

Karnataka Lokayukta joint commissioner Syed Riyaz was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday night for his alleged involvement in collecting bribes from state officials.

We have taken Riyaz into custody from a private hospital where he was taking treatment for blood pressure and diabetes, said a senior investigating officer.

As part of its probe into the graft charges against some unidentified officials in the watchdog, though the SIT team summoned Riyaz for interrogation, he delayed by extending his leave from July 17 to July 31 on returning from pilgrimage to Makkah on July 19.

Preliminary investigation and interrogation of three suspected extortionists whom we arrested last week revealed that Riayz was one of the kingpins in threatening many officials of booking graft cases and raiding their premises if they did not pay up over the years, the officer said.

The SIT, headed by Additional Director General of Police Kamal Pant, was set up by the state government on the request of Lokayukta, Justice (retd.) Y. Bhaskar Rao on June 30 to probe the graft charges, including a bribe of Rs.1 crore sought allegedly by his son Ashwin Rao.

The SIT is also on the lookout for Riyaz’s brother-in-law Sadiq for allegedly being part of the extortionist gang.

The three co-accused in the scam are Ashok Kumar, Srinivas Gowda and Shankare Gowda, who used to threaten officials and extort money after collecting information against them through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
