Forum Mall celebrates World Photography Day

Bangalore, 20th August 2014: Forum Mall, Koramangala celebrates 175 years of photography with an exhibition of 300 spectacular photographs which are displayed on all three floors of the mall starting from the atrium.

World Photography Day is a worldwide celebration of photography and Forum Mall has provided a platform for amateur photographers to embrace their love of photography by participating in the Forum Share Contest. The ‘FPS’ contest encouraged photography enthusiasts to send in their best photograph, 300 best entries were selected to be displayed at the mall commemorating this special day.

To honour the exhibition an event was organised by Forum Mall for the participants. The event started with an introduction to the Forum Photo Share concept, moving to the evolution of photography and tips for amateur photographers by award winning film maker and photographer Ryan Lobo. The winner of the contest was declared after Ryan Lobo’s inspiring talk. The winning picture belonged to Kapil Lalwani from Chennai; the surreal photograph featured two half submerged buffaloes in a lake along with a boy swimming next to the animals. The event concluded with a Q&A session wherein people inspiring to be photographers asked tips on how they could take good photographs.

Shoppers and those passionate about photography were indeed given a sight to behold which undoubtedly left an indelible impression in their minds. The exhibition was a unique and exciting display of extraordinary, unconventional and creative, complimented by a wide variety of scenic beauty shots, human shots and stills of inanimate objects photographed in an artistic way.

About Ryan Lobo – Award winning filmmaker and photographer. In 2009 Ryan spoke about what he calls “compassionate storytelling” with photography at the TED conference, to a standing ovation.

Ryan Lobo has co-produced the 2011 Sundance film festival award winning film,“The Redemption of General Butt naked”, the story of Joshua Milton Blahyii, also known as General Butt Naked, a former African warlord who terrorized a country for many years with his child soldiers.  The film won for best cinematography at the Sundance film festival in 2011 and was nominated for best feature length documentary film.

Ryan owns Mad Monitor Productions, a film and photo production company based in Bangalore and has worked as a producer / cinematographer for more than 70 film projects for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, OWN and other networks, including shooting undercover for the Emmy-nominated film Child Slaves of India.

His photographs and writing have been featured in numerous magazines like GEO magazine, Marie Claire, Elle, Tehelka, Bidoun, The Caravan, National Geographic Magazine, the Boston review, Chimurenga, Onzeweruld, the Wall Street Journal and  others. Ryan’s limited edition photographs have been exhibited all over the world and are present in many collections.
