Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has said that South Africa have ‘a lot at stake’ in the four-match Test series against his country’s side, which starts in Durban on Saturday.

Referring to South Africa’s recent 3-0 series defeat against India, the maverick batsman opined that the pressure would mount more on the Hashim Amla-led side if they lose the series against England.

Pietersen admitted that he had initially feared his side would lose easily but that it was now too close to take a call as they mirror each other.

The South African-born batsman also observed that both sides will rely on their two premium batsmen (Amla and AB de Villiers, Joe Root and Alastair Cook), but called on the rest of the batters to show their mettle.
