The president of North America chapter of BIT Sindri alumni association Former Nasa scientist and, Neil Pundit has put forward a proposal of merging BIT Sindri with ISM Dhanbad to form a new campus of Indian Institute of Technology — IIT Dhanbad-Sindri.
He summoned other alumnus of the institute to study the feasibility of the merger and work on the procedures of how to convince the state government for approving them.
While addressing the annual alumni meet at BIT Sindri on 17 November 2013, Pundit unfurled that he had a detailed discussion with state science and technology secretary, A K Pandey, on the overall development of the institute. Though the proposal for giving full autonomy to the institute was denied by the government, the secretary has assured to look into this proposal of merging BIT Sindri with ISM Dhanbad for this is the only option for ensuring overall development of the institute, said Pundit.
Mr Pundit has even met the state chief minister Hemant Soren in this regard and now is hoping that the matter would soon be discussed in the state cabinet.
