Thinning opportunities of getting jobs have made Indians to search for it, abroad. Because of the declining job prospect in India, there has been an increase of 70% in the figures of Indians taking Graduate Record Examination (GRE), which is gateway to admissions in postgraduate programmes overseas Universities. The numbers of GRE takers in India grew from 33,504 in 2011-12 to 56,782 in 2012-13.
GRE applicants from India embrace the second position in terms of largest group of GRE test takers, the first being the US candidates which are 3, 37,782 and third being China with having 42,357 candidates applying.
Most Universities abroad use GRE scores to pick students for offering seats in their postgraduate programmes across various courses and disciplines, varying from engineering and social sciences and even management.
A report ‘Snapshot of the Individuals Who Took the GRE revised General Test’ depicts the increase of Indians test takers is comparatively much more than China’s 45% or the 6% rise in US candidates.
The report ‘Snapshot’ has collected data, which is based on 500,000 GRE test takers, who took this test in between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013.
MD of online coaching academy GREedge.com, Anand Kannan told that due to US economy getting improved people are being more positive about going there and getting jobs after completion of their course.
As per the US media reports, US Schools observed a sharp rise of 40% of new students from India in the fall admission season, which was mere 1% increase in 2012 and 2% in 2011.
Among total of Asian GRE takers, about 44% belonged to India whereas 39% were from China. More candidates fell in 18-22 age- groups this year, with majority aspiring for natural sciences courses. Non-US citizens are now approximately one-third of the total candidates taking GRE.
