NEW YORK: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has emerged an early favourite in an online poll for Time magazine’s ‘Person of the year’ title, NDTV reported.
Though the magazine’s editors will decide the winner, a reader’s poll conducted by it showed the Gujarat chief minister leading. With 2650 votes Modi, hitherto, is ahead of NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden -second in the poll- by a huge margin.
Calling the Gujarat chief minister “the controversial Hindu nationalist,” Time magazine said the “Chief Minister of the Indian state of Gujarat is the most likely candidate to unseat India’s ruling Congress party in the world’s largest democracy.”
The winner will be announced by the magazine next month.
