Los Angeles, Dec 1 (IANS) Actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the movies such as “Varsity Blues” and “The Fast And The Furious”, died in a car crash. He was 40.
The accident took place Saturday in Santa Clarita, California. Walker was said to be inside the Porsche GT when the driver lost control.
Santa Clarita Valley’s sheriff department confirmed Walker’s death, reported Xinhua.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, police said.
Walker was in Santa Clarita for a car show to support the Philippines typhoon relief effort, and went for a ride with a friend in a new Porsche GT. The accident happened during that test spin.
“He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives,” Walker’s representative said in a statement.
The representative added that Walker was “attending a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide”.
“All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family,” Universal Studios said in a statement.
Walker was filming the next sequel of the “Fast and Furious” before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend crash. The film was scheduled for release July 11, 2014.
The actor, who also has films like “Into the Blue” and “Takers” to his credit, is survived by daughter Meadow.
