Bangalore, 3 May 2014: “Cartoon exhibition is an eye opener for youngsters who wants to pursue cartoon as their profession, today cartooning is no more a hobby its a profession ” said R.H. Kulkarni, Principal, The College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath while inaugurating the Exhibition of Foreign Cartoons. The exhibition was inaugurated today (3 May 2014) in Indian Cartoon Gallery.
The cartoons exhibited were of contemporary type and explained the current situation of the country.
Speaking on the occasion Amarnath Kamath, Trustee, MKMA Competition said “The annual Maya Kamath Memorial Award was instituted in the year 2008 to recognize excellence in cartooning. Entries were not only received from all corners of the country but also from several other countries as well. Since last year, we have instituted a special prize exclusively for foreign entries”.
The exhibition of foreign cartoons has started from today in Indian Cartoon Gallery.
The exhibition will be open to public till 17th May 2014 at The Indian Cartoon Gallery, No 1, Midford Gardens, Behind Big Kids Kemp, Off MG Road, Bangalore- 1.
The Institute has received 35 entries for the ‘Best Foreign Cartoon’ Award in the Maya Kamath Memorial Awards Competition-2014 from 35 foreign cartoonists. Selected best 70 cartoons among the entries was displayed at the cartoon gallery. The Jury to select best cartoon for the Award had opinioned that the foreign entries was outstanding in draftsmanship, ideas, composition and the Indian cartoonists have lot to learn from these entrants. The Jury consisted of Mr. Girish Karnad, Jnanapith Awardee, S.G. Vasudev, Eminent Artist and Mr. B.G. Gujjarappa, noted cartoonist. This was an feast to the eyes of the visitors of the exhibition.
