Fake website PMO busted, Delhi police arrested the mastermind

Monday, January 19, 2015,New Delhi: A fake website of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been busted by the Delhi police, sources said today.

Named ‘Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Yojna’, the website was busted by crime branch of the Delhi police today.

Kingpin Sudipta Chatterjee, who managed the website from Kolkata, was today arrested by the police.

Sources said the website was offering loans to entrepreneurs after initial deposit of a few lakhs and was being run from Howrah in West Bengal with an active call centre with 17 telephone callers.

According to sources, the people running the website even possessed fake government rubber stamps and project reports.

Over 200 people have been duped by the website so far.

The fake website was hosted on a server in the US, the sources said.

Earlier, the PMO had asked the Cyber Security Cell of the Department of IT to block all fake accounts as these had content with “communal overtones” and could have serious ramifications as these could be mistaken as the official account of the PMO.
