Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj met representatives of 28 African and Asian nations at the ongoing 10th Asian-African Conference in Indonesian capital Jakarta on Wednesday.
In 1955, the Asian-African Conference, a meeting of representatives of 29 African and Asian nations, was held at Bandung, Indonesia. The conference ultimately led to the establishment of the Nonaligned Movement in 1961.
Swaraj arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday to attend the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference.
Swaraj, who is on a five-day tour to Indonesia, is accompanied by senior diplomats from the foreign affairs ministry for the conference where important discussions are likely to take place in Jakarta and Bandung.
Swaraj will also attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership.
As per local media reports, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his inability to attend the event, which is likely to see attendance of Heads of States from major Asian and African powers. Modi reportedly wrote to Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressing his regrets and invited him to visit India.
